We’ve all heard and been taught the traditional ways to build a network marketing business, but do they work well in today’s market?
Traditional strategies were the only ones we could use say 10 years back, we didn’t have the global communication tool at our disposal a.k.a the internet. You probably know exactly what I’m talking about when I say ‘old skool’….cold calling, prospecting friends & family, 3 feet rule…you get the picture
The rise of the internet has cast a dim light on the methods that were once used to build MLM downlines, it’s not that they don’t work, it’s just that we can do things far more effectively these days. If you’ve arrived at this article then I’d bet my bottom dollar that you already have some inkling of what the internet can do for your business!
But look, Network Marketing today is not really teaching the online thing; sure they give you a company replicated website and back office. There is one major difficulty with these company replicated websites in that they are all identical, what’s the problem with that you may ask? Well… Why should someone choose to join you rather than the next listing? These are important questions which need to be answered.
Here is a very brief rundown of why I think traditional MLM business building tactics are not effective for 95% of the people who use them:
Chasing your family and friends – are they suitable for your business? Are they people with an unstoppable drive for success, do they have strong business acumen? Having people that close to you means that you won’t be able to escape their constant questions and complaints.
Drawing up your list of ‘warm’ prospects – typically 100 people is the goal, do you know 100 people? Bear in mind that you really need 100 folks who are actually going to be interested in your particular opportunity whatever that maybe
The three foot rule – lets face it, do you want to make yourself unpopular by keep on pestering everyone within earshot of you about your business opportunity? Don’t be surprised when folks start deliberately keeping you at bay!
Home meetings – do you have the ability to give good persuasive presentations? Do you have a regular stream of new leads so you can populate these home meetings on a regular basis?
Talking to people in shopping malls – that’s pretty low and desperate really!
Thats some brief reasons why you might be failing in your business by using only the above mentioned MLM sponsoring traditional methods. We must remember though that for some people they definitely work, many a downline has been built using these strategies, take Mark Yarnell for example, he never used the internet to earn his 30+ million!
